(Times Correspondent.)
The January meeting of the Paengaroa Young Farmers’ Club was well attended. The chairman, Mr B. Vant, expressed his pleasure in welcoming Mr Barwell, the lecturer for the evening. • Presenting his report on the activities in connection with rendering aid to the funds necessary to improve Bledisloe Park at Waihi North, Mr P. Hickson stated that £79 15s 3d had been forwarded to the Bedisloe Park Board.
The chairman gave an account of the Christmas Hamper fund for which £3B had been collected.
Mr R. Vant reported on the results to hand of the Gulliver Cup competition held on Mr Hudson Owen’s farm at Papamoa. In the cattle section R. Blaymires was first, R. Vant second and D. Ross third. The results in the sheep section had been delayed and the pigs unfortunately had not been judged. Mr Harwell's interesting and instructive lecture on pig diseases in summer time was followed with close attention. Many of the members took notes and at the close made appreciative comments. A debating competition for six teams will be held in the near future and it is proposed to have three speakers in each team. Efforts are to be made to arrange a dance on Show night, February 28. A sub-committee of three was appointed to deal with a sports day to be held in March. After a lively discussion it was decided to hold a concert on the same lines as the very successful “Rural Revels’’ of last year. Mr W. Fea is to be asked to conduct the “Revels” again.
