EFFECT OF INCREASED WHOLESALE RATES (P.A.) Auckland, today Increases in the wholesale prices for bacon and ham, which will have a subseauent effect on the retail rates, will come into effect today following the withdrawal of Government subsidies. Side and shoulder bacon will be sold on the wholesale market at Is 4d and Is Ud per lb. respectively, an increase in each case of 3id. Raw ham will be increased by Ud to Is 6?d per lb and cooked ham by the same amount to 2s s;|d. Higher retail prices would come into effect on all stock bought during the week at the increased wholesale rates, stated the secretary of the Auckland Master Grocers’ Association, Mr R. M. Barker, last night. Side bacon would be sold at Is lOgd per lb and shoulder at about Id less. Cooked ham would be retailed at 2s 7 Id.
