PAKISTAN’S APPEAL TO DOMINIONS
“PROPAGANDA FOR ABROAD”
No End To Troubles In
Sight
Mass Transfers of Sikhs And Hindus
London, .Sept. 28. Reuter’s correspondent in New Delhi says that the Government of India has now given its own views to Britain and the Dominions following the appeal to the Dominions by the Pakistan Government to help solve the communal problem.
The contents of the Indian communication, he adds, have never been disclosed but the drafting of the Note began soon after the views of the Pakistan Government were passed on to the United Kingdom High Commissioner in India. The Pakistan appeal was described today by the Congress President as purely propaganda for abroad. The real solution, he said, lay in Pakistan itself. In the meantime the Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi stated, tonight that the possibility of war was completely ruled out as far as they were concerned. They subscribed to the principles of the United Nations Charter and they were prepared to place all their cards on the table. He added that the Pakistan Government could see no end at the moment to the present troubles. A broadcast from New Delhi says that it is estimated that more than 500,000 Hindus and Sikhs were moved from West to East Punjab in just over two weeks and that a similar number of Moslems passed from Indian territory to West Punjab.
