PARTIES WILL PULL TOGETHER
ECONOMIC CRISIS DEBATE
No Censure From Opposition
Mr Attlee Confident Of Solution
London, July 31
Besides Mr Attlee, the Government spokesmen in next week's debate on the state of the nation will include Mr Ernest Bevin and Sir Stafford Cripps. Mr Oliver Stanley may open the debate for the Opposition ; and Mr Eden will wind up the debase.
It is stated that the Opposition have decided not to put forward any motion of censure on the Government for their handling of the economic situation. They realise that Mr Attlee will be making the gravest statement since the declaration of war and this is not the time to harrass the Government with such a motion.
Substantial cuts in imports, including some food "cuts, are expected to be announced by the Prime Minister during the debate. Mi> Attlee is also expected to announce cuts in dollar expenditure which will affect the' strength of the British forces of occupation in Germany and perhaps in other parts of the world.
The Prime Minister told a private meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party yesterday that the economic position was serious, but that there was no need for panic. He said the remedies, which had been planned could overcome the difficulties. . ' '-.\ ■*•' '
