BRITAIN TO BE TOLD THE WORST

ECONOMIC “WAR CABINET” CONTEMPLATED BY PRIME MUSTER

PULL REPORT ON FINANCIAL CRISIS TO BE MADE IN COMMONS

THEORY AS TO LORD MONTGOMERY’S SUDDEN RETURN i - London, July 30. A Parliamentary correspondent .reports that a two-day debate will open in the House of Commons on economic affairs next Wednesday when a full report on the state of the nation will Jie presented. An emergency battle squad, comprising five senior members of the Government, to fight Britain’s increasing problems, is contemplated by Mr Attlee, says the political correspondent of the Daily Mail. This would really mean a return to the wartime system of a small inner cabinet. This body would make all the vital decisions affecting the country. Its members, in addition to Mr Attlee, would be the Foreign Minister, Mr Ernest Bevin, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Hugh Dalton, the Lord President of the Council, Mr Herbert Morrison, and the President of the Board of Trade, Sir Stafford Cripps. Reuters industrial correspondent says the announcement, on the eve of the British parliamentary Labour Party’s “crisis meeting,’’ that Field-Marshal Viscount Montgomery is hurrying home is linked in London with reports that the looming economic crisis might force the Government to slash Britain’s armed forces.
