Tauranga South Club Wins Francis Cup

Whitworth's Team Successful .

Two Tauranga teams—one from the South Bowling Club and the other from the Tauranga Club —met in the final play on Saturday of the Bay of Plenty Bowling Association's annual tournament for the Francis Cup. Sixteen teams took part in the tournament which was a three-day fixture played this year on the Tauranga South Club's greens. Bowling of a high' standard was seen in the final game between Whitworth's team (Tauranga South) and Woods' team (Tauranga Club), the former winning by 24 to 15. Whitworth's team comprised: T. Milne, W. Johnston and T. Eastwood and Woods' team included T. Steiwart, J. Baxter and H. Smith.

The Final Game

The two leads in Milne and Stewart opened well at the first lead.

Milne placed his second at the fourth end to hold the shot, and Johnston played a good one to leave Whitwortli two up. Eastwood then added another but

him to give Woods shot. Woods' first bowl was a toucher but he could only hold the one shot. The sixth saw Stewart nicely on the jack, Baxter adding another. Eastwood failed with his first, while Smith added one more for Woods, Eastwood killing the end. Again Stewart placed his first close to the jack, while Baxter added two more. Johnston, with his second, reduced the lead by one. Smith's first was a toucher while Eastwood cut another shot out -to leave Woods only one up. Milne held the shot with his second bowl at the seventh end, Johnston adding another. Smith with his first gave Woods an advantage of two shots. Eastwood cut one out and Whitwortli played a nice one to lie three up.

At the eighth Milne gavejiis team a good start, but good play by Smith and Woods retrieved the position and left them two up. A similar position on the ninth head, ended with Whitworth being one up, and the 10th and 11th heads also resulted in Whitworth being one up.
