FAILURE OF COMMISSION CRITICISED ALLIED ADVISORY COUNCIL EMBARRASSED / London, Nov. S. The Australian Minister for External Affairs, Dr. Evatt, has criticised the failure of the Far Eastern Commission in Washington to issue general services directives to General MacArthur, Supreme Commander in Japan.
He told the Australian House of Representatives, that his failure was embarrassing to the Allied Advisory Council in Tokio which had no power to over-ride General MacArthur. Dr. Evatt said the Pacific was Australia's primary interest but he did not mean that his country should not have a say -in the settlement of Europe. Relations between the British and Australian Governments, he added, were as close to-day as in any period of history, if not closer.
