AN AIRBORNE FORCE

RECOMMENDATIONS IN AMERICA Washington, Oct. 6. More than 40 United States generals recommended that the bulk of the American Army be trained as an airborne striking force led by parachutists and glider troops. The recommendations are contained in a study prepared for General Eisenhower, Army Chief of Staff, as a basis for future army doctrine. The strength of the American airborne division already is being doubled to 16,000 men. The Army also is initiating a programme giving standard infantry divisions air landing training.
