SOCIAL AND DEBATING CLUB
MONTHLY GATHERING The March meeting of the Social and Debating Club was held recently in the Patriotic Hut. On this occasion, a play reading was the main item, ably produced by Mr Frank Waldegrave. Under the title of “The Stepmother,” the play, which was of the farce type, was acted by Mrs W. S. Holland, Miss Val Hartman, and Messrs Waldegrave and Lobley. The evening opened with a competition which required those taking part to have a good knowledge of current affairs, the winners being Messrs J. Kaalund and F. Waldegrave and Misses M. Hawkins and J. Cameron.
The quiz was, as usual, in the capable hands cf Mr C. N. Heather, and was won by Miss Joan Cameron. Music was supplied by Mrs Fulton and Miss Clarice Ray. Miss Val Hartman, the club secretary, has now left Tauranga for Wellington, and at the last committee meeting, Miss Alison Willcock was elected to the position of secretary. Appreciative references to Miss Hart-, ■man’s services to the club were made by the chairman and others at the meeting.
