SWIMMING CARNIVAL AT TE PUKE
TAURANGA COMPETITORS SUCCESSFUL FIRST IN SEVERAL EVENTS Competing in the Te Puke Amateur Swimming Club’s carnival on Saturday, Tauranga swimmers performed exceptionally well against representatives from Matamata, Hamilton, Rotorua and Te Puke, and ‘wen a number of events. A Tauranga competitor was placed first in the three heats and the final of the 50 yai’ds men’s A grade race. C. Hartley won the first heat, J. Hare won the second, W. Dashwood won the third and the final was won by Hartley, his time being 29 seconds. In the diving, the girls’ event was won by T. Williams, two Tauranga competitors, P. Johnson and J. Francis, were placed first and second in the women’s dive, and the men’s event was won by B. M. Marshall. Tauranga won the challenge relay race from Te Puke and Rotorua was placed third, while in the 50 yards open backstroke J. Lloyd was placed first and Pat Johnson was thiid. Lloyd’s time was 41 seconds. In the final of the 50 yards womenls race Pam Johnson gained third place and J. Nicholls was third in the final of the 50 yards men’s B grade race.
