YOUNG FARMERS’ ACTIVITIES

WELCOME BAY CLUB FIRST ANNUAL MEETING The First annual meeting of ihe Welcome Bay Young Farmers’ Club was held recently at Papamoa. There was a large attendance of members. The president (Mr J. R. Wright), in opening the meeting extended a warm welcome to Mr A. V. Alio who was paying his first visit to the club since taking up his appointment in Tauranga as instructor to the Department of Agriculture. Jn his report, which was a very comprehensive one, the president stated that although the club was formed only seven months previously, it had, during this short period, made excellent progress and had already made itself prominent among the clubs of the Western Bay ct Plenty area. There were 2G members on the roll with prospects of an increase in the near future. The facf that these young men previously were not adequately served by a club was, in the opinion of the president, sufficient reason alone for it having been formed in the area and • fully justified the action of those who were responsible for its formation. a In conclusion, the president thanked all who had helped to make the period under review a success and he appealed to members to co-oper-ate and strive to make the comingyear even more successful. The treasurer (Mr 0. H. Sorrenson) presented the balance sheet for the year which showed that the club’s, financial position was sound. The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follow;- —- President Mr J. R. Wright; vicepresident, Mr H. Barty; secretary Mr A. G. Talbot; treasurer, Mr L. Aitken; advisory president, Mr J. C. Hammond: advisory members, Messrs J. Wright (sen), and B. Mcssop; delegates to district committee, Messrs Hammond, Talbot and J. R. Wright . * ; At the conclusion of the meeting Mr Alio gave an interesting address on Young Farmer’s Club activities which was much appreciated by all present.
