FELLING OF BUSH

POSSIBLE EFFECT OX WATERSUPPLY BOROUGH COUNCIL’S CONCERN At last month’s meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council, concern was expressed at the possible effect on the town’s water supply of bush felling operations in the vicinity of the waterworks at Oropi and the Mayor (Mr L. R. Wilkinson) was asked to communicate with the Commissioner of State Forests on the subject. • A reply to the Mayor’s communication was received from the Minister' at the monthly meeting of the council on Wednesday evening, and in it he intimated that as the milling referred to was being carried out on private land he had no power to interfere. The Mayor said he wondered if the council should take steps to acquire the block, in which he believed there was some 3000 acres, and keep it as a reserve. ) He moved that the Finance Committee consider this suggestion, the motion being seconded by Cr. W. A. Carswell and carried.
