“NOT EQUAL OF U.S. SOLDIER”

JAPANESE TROOPS

New York, August 17

Challenging Mr Osmar White’s; statement that the Japanese, -man for man, are more than equal to the Allied soldiers in the jungle, Lieu-tenant-Colonel Burton Willis, formerly an officer at an advanced base in New Guinea, said: “On the ‘contrary, American soldiers out-think and out-fight the Japanese.

“Neither the Australian nor ■ the American soldiers now have the apprehension about meeting the Japanese that they had six month ago. The morale and spirit of the Allied forces have risen like a thermometer on a hot day since supplies, which came in slowly in the early part of the war, are now arriving.”
