TURIN HEAVILY BOMBED
I R.A.F. ITALIAN OFFENSIVE Important Targets Pounded Tremendous Destruction In Milan London, August 17. ! The important Italian industrial city of Turin was the main target for R.A.F. heavy bombers last night. This was the R.A.F.'s third consecutive night attack on 'northern Italy and the 30th. raid on Turin. Pilots said that the bombing, was well concentrated. The principal targets in Turin are the vast Fiat works and the State Arsenal. Turin is quite close to the French frontier and is also an important centre of railway communication. All rail traffic from France must pass through Turin. The night's operations cost us four bombers. In the great R.A.F. attacks on Milan tremendous destruction has been wrought. Some of the city's biggest factories, says a Swiss newspaper correspondent, are completely destroyed. Every hour fresh fires blazze up and buildings crash across the streets. Everything in Milan, he says, is at a standstill.
