CROQUET CLUB
ANNUAL. MEETING SUCCESSFUL YEAR The annual meeting of the Tauranga Croquet Club was held in the club's pavilion last week. The annual report showed that the club had had a successful year and a pleasing increase in membership. Officers elected for the ensuing year were as follows: President, Mrs E. Webb; vice-presidents, Mrs J. Exley and Mrs Peacock; captain, Mrs W. Cross; secretary, Mrs A. Peppercorn. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr E. Tamblyn for auditing the club's accounts, and also to the Bay of Plenty Times. After the meeting a delightful afternoon tea was served, and opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mrs R. James, who had been the club's president for the past two years. The new president, Mrs E. Webb, in a very happy speech referred to all the work Mrs James had done for the club, and expressed the regret of all the members at her departure. She then asked Mrs James to accept a handsome evening bag with the best wishes from the members. In replying, Mrs James said that she was indeed sorry to be leaving Tauranga and the croquet club. Her absence would probably only be until tfhe war was over". She was looking forward to coming back once more, and expressed her sincere thanks to the members for their handsome gift. The afternoon closed with singing "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow."
