FIERCE FIGHTING

KHARKOV FRONT German Tanks Routed Deadly Russian Weapon London. May 20. A Moscow communique reports the continuation of tierce fighting: on the Kharkov front. The Red Army newspaper. “Red Star,' - tells how the Russians deal with German tank attacks. The Russian anti-tank rifle is being used against German tanks with deadly effect. This is a two-man weapon which is capable of piercing 'he armour plate on most German tanks. The latest German attacks, made with large numbers of tanks, supported by aircraft, have been allowed to approach the Russian infantry at close range, and the Germans have been subjected to a concentrated tire from the Russian anti-tank rifles. So deadly has this been that the enemy tanks have been halted in front of the Russian positions by this fire, backed up with artillery. No fewer than 4 7 German tanks were counted in front of one Russian position and 25 at another. One Ger-

man tank division had 250 of machines put out of action. The Germans are repeating 'heir claims that German and Rumanian troops now occupy the whole of the Kerch Peninsula. Moscow, however, denies this and states that new and. heavy battles are about to begin, round the town of Kerch.
