POSITION IN BURMA R.A.F. Keeps L T p Attacks Offensive Increasing In Scale Loudon. May 20. Our land forces in North Burma are still out of contact with the Japanese. The R.A.F., however, is keeping up a continuous offensive against the enemy, which is increasing in scale and intensity. Included in their attacks were two raids yesterday on the port of Akyab. In the first it is believed that two enemy fighters were destroyed and others damaged. In the second attack two more enemy fighters were damaged on the aerodrome. Enemy air activity was confined to the dropping of bombs on a peaceful rural locality in eastern Assam. The U.S. volunteer group and the Chinese land forces have brought the Japanese in eastern Burma to a standstill. The enemy forces in Yunnan are also making no progress. In China the Japanese have made a further advance in the province of. Chekiang. There are heavy casualties on both sides.
