Maori Heritage. "The Maori mind is directed toward one thing only, and that is bringing about a crushing and final victory- They realise that to attain this end they must stand, as they are standing now, wholeheartedly behind the Government in its war effort and do everything in their power to preserve for themselves their heritage," concluded the report of the Maori Advisory Council to the annual conference of the Labour Party in Wellington. A resolution was passed unanimously expressing admiration of the work of the Maori Battalion overseas and pledging Labour to fight side by side with the Maoris until final victory is achieved. Veterans of the Sea. The fact that two New Zealand troopships of 1914 to 1918 have withstood the perils of two wars at sea and are still in service, is pointed out by Mr H. Fleming, Devonport. He said that he sailed in these two ships to Egypt during the Great War and back to New Zealand. One ship is a veteran of 30 years' service between New Zealand and England. The other is now a hospital ship. He knew of no other troopships of the last war still afloat and wondered if their case was unique.
