LYCEUM CLUB

CIRCLES RESUMING Several circles of the Lyceum Club whose activities were discontinued last year, have now revived and there have been some rearrangements. The Literary and Drama Circle for instance have joined up with the Music Circle. Mrs Hawkins and Mrs M. Munro are the respective conveners and it is hoped to work up some very interesting programmes together. There will be two meetings a month, alternate afternoon and evening.

Bridge and man jong have been kept going continuously and there is little change in their plans.

The Arts and Crafts Circle under Mrs Meikle with Miss Nancy Norris as secretary, is the last to open again. A meeting on Monday afternoon drew several enthusiastic members, and after discussion it was decided to ally this circle with the Friday afternoon sewing circle. Small shows could be arranged and any funds arising from these could be paid to the Sewing Circle for patriotic work. It was decided to have the first afternoon at the end of May when a show of floral art would be made. Members would be asked to make floral carpets, etc., for competition, and prizes Avould be donated for the various classes. To entertain members last Monday, Mrs Kirkby lent her collection of paintings done by Mrs. Osborne at Great Barrier, and the pictures (copies of the work of old masters) given by the late .Sir Percy Sargood for a local art gallery were also shown.

Mrs Meikle was hostess for afternoon tea and the success of the meeting generally was pleasing. The Gardening Circle is iir full swing with Miss Stewart as their convener, and lectures have been arranged.
