Miss Pearl. Herbert leaves to-mor-row for Wellington, where she will act as the Tauranga delegate at the Orange. Lodge annual conference.
The Governor-General has accepted the resignation of Mr William Gain, of Tauranga, of his appointment as a Justice of the Peace, according to a notice in the latest Gazette. «
j Mr George Hart, of Mount Maunganui, has been gazetted Lieutenant of Infantry. Mr Jim Cooney, of Tauranga, has also received a commission in the Artillery and is stationed . at Trentham.
| Lieut. Allan Tassell and Mrs Tassell are spending a short holiday with Mrs Tassell’s mother, Mrs A. , Tudhope, Devonport Road. Lieut. Tassell, who is serving in the New 1 Zealand Divisional Engineers at Trentham is on ten days’ leave which . he is spending on a motoring trip.
Reference to the deaths of Mr : C. FI. Clinkard, of Rotorua, a member of the Tauranga Harbour Board, and Mr A. Montgomery, of Te Puke, a former member, was made at yesterterday’s meeting of the board. Motions of sympathy were carried, members standing in silence as a mark of respect.
