AMERICAN BASKETBALL AT THE RIVOLI
On Wednesday evening, by defeating Cadets, Jurys gained a two point lead in the Centennial Cup Competition. Results of the night’s games were as follows: 1. Dunlops 24 (L. Silvester 14, T., Elder 8, K. Rowsell 2) defeated Pirates 20 (Brown 18, Grinder 2), 2. Jurys 9 (Wood 4, Greer 3, Bougen 2) beat Cadets 7 (Scandle 4, Guinness 2, Hill 1). 3. Wanderers 25 (Neno 12, Adamson 7, Lodge 4, R. Silvester 12,) defeated Nomads 17 (Dagley 12, Randle 4, Bougen I).' The Play Dunlops: L. Silvester, R. Silvester) T. Elder, A. Long, K. Rowsell, Tyson, versus Pirates —Brown, Da T Vfies, Grinder, Harris, Norris—was the first gam© of the evening, and kept the spectators interested throughout. ' For Dunlops, L. Silvester, Rowsell and Elder proved too strong a combination for their opponents. Their anticipation was good, and as guards Long and R. Silvester gave them every support. Pirates, by good team work, kept Brown well fed with the ball. This player using his height to advantage, scoring eighteen of the twenty points for his side. As a new player Norris shaped well. Game No 2 on the programme was of course the attraction of the evening, and as will be seen by the low, close score the audience was provided with plenty of thrills by the strong defensive play of both team. Judys: Greer, Wood, Bougen, Harris, Tyson. Cadets: R. Sutherland, I. Scandle, Hill, G. Guinness, C. Guinness. Harris and Tyson worked hard as guards with Greer, Wood and Bougen making a good forward line. This team earned their win as they were short of Jenkins, their star player. For Cadets, R. Sutherland was sound on defence, C; Guinness playing his first game for several weeks, kept the forwards Scandle, Hill and GGuinness, well supplied with the ball. The last game on the list brought Wanderers (Neno, Adamson, Willis, Lodge, R. Silvester) and Nomads (Randle, Dagley, Cooper, Hill, Bougen) together again and wound up an entertaining evening with a fast open game. Neno for Wanderers, improves with every game. Adamson’s play was of the usual high standard with Willis doing his bit as guard. Nomads with three regular players on the sick list, put up a good fight. The team worked well together to give Dagley a chance to shoot some excellent baskets.
