LEAGUE OF NATIONS

SIR JAMES PARK’S CRITICISM Trenchant criticism of the League of Nations was offered by Sir James Parr, formerly High Commissioner for New Zealand, who passed through Fremantle in the Orcades last week on his return from a world tour. He considers the League has shown Itself futile as a keeper of general peace. On social questions it had worked well, but it was an expensive Instrument. The new building, which cost £ 2,000,000 of which the British Commonwealth of Nations subscribed 26 per cent., was an unnecessary extravagance.

The League had a large number of members who never paid their subscriptions but regularly attended meetings each year and did most of the talking.
