NEED FOR RAIN
DAIRYING IN AUSTRALIA Reports from dairying districts in various parts of Australia received by Prescott Proprietary, Ltd., Sydney, for the week ended October S, are as follows: New South Wales. —Reports have been received from some centres that rain is much needed. Supplies are increasing, but not so rapidly as is usual at this time of the year. Arrivals are higher than those of last week, and approximately the same as those of the corresponding week, 1937. Export gradings have also increased.
Victoria. —Weather conditions continue unsatisfactory, drying winds being very prevalent. Continuance of this weather would soon have its effect on output. Meantime production is increasing.
Queensland. —Parts of the Downs and Lockyer districts have received good storm rains. Production is still expanding, and in the event of further rains, an excellent season is anticipated. Export gradings are much higher. South Australia. —Although production is still on the upgrade, output is not the same as that of this time last year, and rain is now urgently required in all dairying centres. Local market prices are unchanged, choicest selling well at 151/8 per cwt.
