WORLD RECORD
SHORTHORN’S MILK YIELD The Shorthorn Society of Great Britain has forwarded a cupy of a letter recently received at its office which provides a record of truly amazing milk production. The hutterfat equivalent- of this may be assessed on a 4 per cent., or just below a 4 per cent, basis. At 3.8 per cent, fat content, the milk record for one week shows a production of 3Gill). hutterfat. The letter, dated September 1, is signed by Messrs. Wort and Way, dairymen, Salisbury. It says: Dear Sir, —With reference to the paragraph which has appeared in the Press under the heading of “A New Milking Record” by a British Friesian cow, ‘‘Terling Graceful 10th, bred and owned by Lord Rayleigh’s farms ixf Essex, when it was claimed that 9181 b. yield of milk in one week was a British record, we should like to point out that we have a Shorthorn cow called Cherry in our Red House Farm dairy at Amesbury which is recorded by the South Wiltshire Milk Recording Society and has given the following yields in successive weeks: May 15 to 21, 96141 b.; May 22 to 28, 9581 b.; May 29 to June 4,92031 b.; June 5 to 11, 92231 b.; June 12 to 18, 93431 b.
