TE PUNA NOTES
SPORTS CLUB ANNUAL MEETING [From Our Correspondent] There was a fair attendance at the annual general meeting of the Te Puna Sports Club, held on Monday evening last in the Te Puna Hall. The minutes of the last general meeting were read and confirmed. It was decided to hold the sports as in previous years. The Tauranga Amateur Athletic Club had three representatives present at the meeting, Messrs Ream, E. Polley and H. Long. Mr Ream explained that the Amateur Athletic Club were to hold their sports on Easter Monday, the day that the Te Puna Sports Club always held their meeting. He said that no one was more sorry than the Athletic Club that these two meetings should clash, but as they had been allotted this day by the Association they could not change it. He hoped the Te Puna Sports Club would consider changing to Easter Saturday. If this could be arranged the Amateur Athletic Club would give it all the help and support possible. , The meeting decided, however, that as the Te Puna Sports Club has been established for about 20 years and had always had Easter Monday it could not very well be changed. Visitors came from all the surrounding districts to these sports, and it would cause a lot‘ of inconvenience to the Club. The Sports Club always had a dance to follow their sports, but on Saturday night it would not be suitable. The Athletic Club representatives regretted the date could not be altered. but wished the Te Puna Sports Club every success. They would do their best to avoid the same clash next year. Ordinary business was then discussed and the following officers elected; —Chairman—-Mr G. Chapman; Secretary, Mr C. V. Taylor; Vice-Presidents, Mr D. Borell, J. Armstrong, R. Prior, S. Williams. I. Tangitu, A. Harper, and W. Allen. Mr W. Armstrong, who kindly lends his property every year, was made a life member of the Club. A vote of thanks was given to Mr C. V. Taylor for his generous help as Secretary in the past years. The programme was arranged on much the same lines as previous years and several judges and handicappers appointed. MEMORIAL HALL The annual general meeting of the Te Puna Memorial Hall was held on Monday evening last. The minutes of the last general meeting were read and confirmed, and the very satisfactory balance sheet was read and adopted. Last year’s committee was re-elected, and a vote of thanks was given to Mrs L. Anderson for her help in the past years. PERSONAL Miss W. J. Sargent has returned to her home in Te Puna, where she will stay until her marriage which is to take place in the near future.
