More Rain. 'l'he weather was broken and unpleasant at the week-end. County Assessor A letter was read at Friday's meeting of the Tauranga County Council from the Valuer-General, requesting the Council to take the necessary steps in regard to the appointment of a valuation assessor for the next three years.—The Council referred the matter to the County Clerk, Mr Lewis, for action. .Sugar Rcct, A representative of the Department of Agriculture was in Tauranga last week-end in connection with investigations as to the suitability of the Bay of Plenty for the growing of sugar beet.. He took samples of beet from the High School experimental plots and his preliminary tests showed a 25 per cent, greater sugar content than beet grown in England. GTcht nd .£ao;a Maungafawa Drain Mr C. O. Riddell, Papamoa, in a letter read at Friday’s meeting.of the Tauranga County Council, stated: “I wish to thank you for the great assistance given to the ratepayers of this locality in the matter of the Maungatawa Drain, also to the Engineer, tor planning what promises to be an effective remedy for our flood troubles. This has been a matter of very grave concern to ns all and threatened to ruin the results of years of work. We hope you will be able to have the work brought to a 'satisfactory conclusion before the spring rains. Again assuring you that we appreciate the help of the Council.” Mr Benham said he had received a letter from the District Engineer, Mr Ronayne, asking for plans so that the matter could be taken up with the Railway Department. The preparation of the plans was in progress.
