MILK PRICES
RAISED IN AUCKLAND
Auckland, April 10
A decision to increase the winter rate for milk -producers to lid a gallon was made yesterday by the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council. It was stated by the Chairman, Mr 1.. .1. Goldstine, that the Council would pay no heed to “pistols pointed at its head,” or to “attempts to stampede it.”
The new price to producers is lid for milk at the farm gate, but, owing to the increase in the price of cream from 6d to lOd per milk gallon, the farmer on his total average will get another id. The increase from the present price of 93d to lid has ’been achieved by reductions in various costs. These are a reduction of Jd per gallon in the cost of inward cartage, Jd for pasteurisation, Jd on council levy, Jd for outward cartage, and Jd from retail vendors’ distribution margin. ■ The increases in the farmers’ prices are 9Sd to lid a gallon for town milk, Gd to lOd for cream, BJd to 9d for hospital and shipping milk, 6d to GJd for ice cream milk, and Is 6d to 2s 3d for cream bought on a butter-fat basis.
The new cream prices to the public are 6d instead of 5d a quarter pint, lid instead of 9d a half-pint, and Is 8d instead of Is 4d a pint. Similar increases were made for cream sold in cartons.
