FURIOUS DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS One of tlio most curious law suits in Frence legal history is down for hearing shortly, at the instance of Mr Harold Hanvey, air Englishman living in one of the Paris suburbs. Mr Hanvey, came to Paris about ten years ago, accompanied by his first wife, a native of Dumfries. They took a flat in one of the Paris suburbs, and there had as neighbour, across the corridor, a young Frenchman named Paul Brietic, who had the reputation of being a Don Juan. One day Mr Hanvey discovered an intrigue between his wife and Brieuc, and there was a divorce suit, in which the Frenchman figured as co-respondent. Afterwards Mrs Hanvey became Madame Brieuc, and continued to live in the landing opposite her former husband. Soon, Mr Hanvey married again, this time with a Frenchwoman, but very shortly afterwards he learned that his new wife had ‘‘fallen for” the Don Juan across the corridor. Mental Anguish There was a second appearance in the Divorce Court, with a decree naming Brieuc as co-respondent. Mrs Hanvey number one was ejected from 'the Brieuc household, and replaced by Mrs Hanvey pumber two. Some time afterwards Mr Hanvey made his third venture into matrimony, and for a time he was hap'py. But one day neighbours told him something that made it certain that the third wife had fallen hnder the spell of Brieuc. There was a third appearance in the Divorce Court, with yet another decree in which Brieuc was named as co-respondent. Now Mr Hanvey is suing Brieuc for damages to cover the expenses and compensate him for the mental anguish he has endured. It is the first time such a suit has been brought in France. Mr Hanvey contemplates a fourth venture in.to matrimony, but has decided that it would be advisable to start his new life some distance away from the neighbour who has wrecked his home three times. The first Mrs Hanvey, who became Madame Brieuc number one, has commenced a suit against M. Brieuc and the two women who succeeded her, claiming damages for the loss of her happiness.
