DEEP-SEA SPORT
TWO SWORDFISH LANDED
Lieutenant-General Sir William Marshall, of London, who is on a visit to Tauranga. proceeded to the Mayor Island fishing grounds at the week-end in the launch Kingfish and landed two swordfish. The first one was hooked shortly after noon on Sunday and fought for three-quarters of an hour. It weighed 24011). About 4 p.m. the second swordfish was hooked in the vicinity of the island. It ran for some distance to sea and then turned back toward the island to shallow water. It maintained the struggle for an hour and gave a splendid display of leaping. Its weight was 3101 b. The Kingfish returned from the island last night. Mr E. Chadban, master of the launch, reports having seen a number of swordfish and considers that a continuation of the present favourable weather conditions will promote good fishing on the deep-sea grounds. Two other local ‘launches are out at Mayor Island at present and many parties are booked for the present month.
