Still' (TAB DEMONSTRATION (Prom our correspondent.) Successful surf life-saving demonstrations and competitions were held on the Ocean Beach on Sunday. Mr H. C. Sidford, Secretary of the Auckland Life-Saving Association, assisted by Mr F. Wederell of the Whakatane Club, acted as Beach Marshall, and Mr A. C. Faulkner, Chief Instructor and examiner of the Association, carried out the duties of Judge in a competent manner. The following teams took part in the demonstration and competitions: Combined Team representing the Auckland Association —Messrs H. C. Sidford (captain), J. Mathieson, C. P. Holt, M. R. Adams (Piha), L. Kerr, H. Kember (Eastern United), R. Patterson, W. Warren (Takapuna). Whakatane —Messrs B. M. Dennehy (captain), C. Brebner, S. Phillips, H. Mahy, H. Righton, W. Doherty, V. Timms.

Papamoa—O. Taylor (captain), J Riddell, B. Pile, G. Ward, L. Fagau N. Perkins, G. Perkins, A. McPhee F. McDonald.

Tauranga Girls—Misses R. Patterson (captain), Betty Sneddon, Marie McMasters, Shirley Young, Edna Benjamin, Joyce Lloyd, Jean Currie. Mount Maunganui—Messrs T. Magee (captain), G. Pemberton, R. Boddy, J. Patterson, L. Malpas, F. Harvey, P. Petley, E. Tovey. The following competitions were carried through, the results being as follows:

March Past, for C. J. West Trophy—Whakatane 1, Papamoa 2, Mount Maunganui 3. Mr West addressed the teams on the beach after the march past and congratulated them on their smart appearance. Land Drill by Tauranga Girls. Six-men event for J. Monro Trophy —Mount Maunganui 1, Whakatane 2, Papamoa 3.

The Tauranga Girls also gave a demonstration of the six-men event. Four-men Alarm —Mount Maunganui 1, Auckland Assn, team 2, Whakatane 3. In this event E. Tovey, the Mount bellman, won in 3m 395. This is a meritorious performance as he swam against one of the most promising beltmen of Auckland.

At the close of the demonstration the members of the Clubs were entertained in the club house. Mr West, President of the Mount Club, in a brief speech thanked the Judge, Mr A. C. Faulkner, for his services, and the visiting teams for their support, and presented the trophies to the winners. He also intimated that Mr L. Green, of Tauranga, had Informed him of his intention to present a trophy for annual competition on the Mount Beach, to be competed for by teams of girls. As the Tauranga Girls was the only girls’ team present they would automatically hold this trophy for the present year. In reply, Mr A. C. Faulkner stressed the need of co-operation and support of the Association by the Clubs and expressed the thanks of the visitors for the entertainment provided by the Mount Club. Mr B. M. Dennehy, captain of the Whakatane team, in accepting the trophy presented by Mr C. J. West for the March Past, returned thanks and promised a hearty welcome to all the clubs when they met on the Ohope Beach next month for the Association championship competitions. During the afternoon Messrs Faulkner and Sidford, of the Auckland Association, demonstrated the latest method of resuscitation with the use of the gas gun (carbon dioxide is the gas used with this method) the demonstration and talk being followed closely by a large and interested audience.

The catering arrangements for the day were capably carried out by Messrs Philip and Johnson, assisted by Mrs Johnson, and were much appreciated by the visitors.
