Mr C. H. Burnett, M.P., and Mrs Burnett arrived from Wanganui yesterdy afternoon and have taken a house in Fifth Avenue. They hope to be in permanent residence by the end of next week. Mr Burnett is still confined to bed as a result of a chill contracted when making an inspection of the State Forest and the forets interests of the Whakatane Pulp and Paper Co. on the 12th inst. Since that date Mr Burnett has been intermittently confined to bod, but is now making steady progress towards recovery and hopes to be about again in a few days. Mr Burnett regrets having had to cancel several engagements.

Mr and Mrs James Macleod, of Whangarei, are spending a holiday at Hotel Roslyn. Mr McLeod is manager of the Whangarei branch of the Bank of Australasia.

Miss AV. Turner, of the staff of the Teachers’ Training College, Auckland, is spending a holiday with relatives in Tauranga.

Visitors at the Tauranga Hotel are Mrs Goss, and Messrs Albertson, Carter, Barrow, Hardy, John, Wright.

Mr and Mrs Speed, of Auckland, are staying at the Star Hotel.

Messrs Tong, Palmer, McKenzie, Bagnett, Sinlett and Rudman are staying at the Masonic Hotel.

New arrivals at Hotel Oceanside include: Mr Budley-Hill, Takapau, Hawkes Bay; Miss Kay-Melviile, Sydney; Messrs. G. H. and V. Streife, Te Aroha; Mr and Mrs E. J. Mathews and Miss E. Mathews, Mr W. Keir, Miss M. Dale, Auckland; Mr and Mrs Helford, Palmerston North.

Mrs Bert Rawles, of Stratford, is visiting Tauranga, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Wyn Rawles.

Mr J. Wills, of the firm of Messrs. Ellis Bros,, Hunterville, Is spending a holiday in Tauranga and district, together with Mr C. Goodwin, of the same town.

Mr W. H. Dobbie, of Auckland, is spending a holiday in Tauranga. Mr F. J. Dare has been appointed master of the Pye’s Pa School.

Mr and Mrs L. Attewell and family, who have been spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs C. N. Lasenby, St. John Street, have left on their return to AVellington.

Amongst ths candidates who passed the University Entrance Scholarship Examination with credit was B. W. Hare, of the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, a former pupil of the Tauranga District High School.

New arrivals at Hotel the Mount include: Mrs Hugh Corbin, Mrs L. Murray, Mr and Mrs Evershed, Mr and Mrs Brenthall and Mr and Mrs Range, Mr and Mrs Hollingrake, all of Auckland; Mr B. A. L. Desgranges, Hamilton; Mr and Mrs Brownhill, Wellington.

The death occurred at Manutahi, near Hawora, yesterday, of Mrs O’Sullivan, widow of the late Mr M. O’Sullivan, a former well-known farmer of that district and sister of Messrs Janies and William Dickson and aunt of Mr Wallace Dickson, of Papamoa. The funeral will take place to-morrow. Mrs O’Sullivan is survived by one son, Mr John O’Sullican. Manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Kaitaia and two daughters, Nurse O’Sullivan and Miss Barbara O’Sullivan of Monutahi.

Major and Mrs Gray have been appointed to the command of the Salvation Army’s operations in Otago and Southland. Major ■ Gray has been an officer for 30 years and has had considerable experience in Australia and New Zealand, holding important positions in each territory for some years past. His last appointment was that of assistant divisional commander of the AVellington Division.
