NEWS IN TOWN TO-DAY

Sheep From Poverty Bay. The s.s. “Pakura” discharged a further consignment of 2065 sheep yesterday at the Railway Wharf ex Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay. The sheep were railed to Morrinsville by special train later in the day. The “Pakura” left for Gisborne for further loading. Cricket Games Cancelled. Owing to the death of King George V the Tauranga Cricket Association’s games, fixed for the coming week-end, have been cancelled.

Tunia Boy Scouts. The Turua Boy Scots who have been in camp on the high school reserve for the past ten days, broke camp to-day and left by train on the return to their homes. The camp was in charge of Scoutmaster F. C. Truman. The boys greatly enjoyed their stay in Tauranga, particularly the fishing excursions on the launch Omokoroa.

Excursion to Rotorua The Rotorua Bus Co. advertise an excursion to Rotorua on Anniversary Day 29th inst.

Sports Meeting The Pyes Pa settlers advertise their annual sports meeting for Wednesday next. Boiling water will be provided. Chamber of Commerce

The monthly meeting of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, which was adjourned on Tuesday evening, will be held on Thursday next, 30th inst.

Deep Sen Risking The weather this morning was ideal and the waters on the harbour and inlets were as smooth as a mill pond. As a result many local launches with visitors were out and some went as far as Mayor Island.

A.m.s. Motu The Northern S.S. Co.'s Motu which was expected to load in Auckland for Ta.uranga yesterday was delayed through bad weather. She leaves to-day and after arrival in Tauranga tomorrow returns to Auckland.

Anniversary Holiday. On Wednesday next. Anniversary Day, a special ail-ctay full rink tournament is being held by the Tauranga South Bowling Club. Entries have been received from Rotorua, Waihi and elsewhere, but there are still vacancies for any rinks wishing to take part. There will also be an all-day tournament on the Domain green.

Payment of Income Tax. The Commissioner of Taxes draws attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in to-day’s issue that the due date of payment of Incometax is on Monday, the 10th day of February, 1936. Additional tax will accrue if the tax is not paid on or mands will be posted from the office before 2nd March, 1936. The deof the Commissioner of Taxes on or about Ist February, 1936. Demands must be presented with all payments, and if a demand has not been received the Commissioner should be communicated with.
