Anniversary Day, January 29, has always been observed as a close holiday in the Auckland Province, and although there are many awards which specify the day as one ’ for closing, many factories’ industrial awards do not include the day in their lists of compulsory holidays. Employers in the main close down their factories and business premises. The local retail premises will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Tuesday will also be observed as a closed day generally by all businesses, but on Wednesday, as stated above, only those businesses or trades whose awards make special provision for Anniversary Day are compelled to close.

Local bakers will not bake on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Memorial Services. In accordance with the request made in the Gazette notice, special services will be held in all the churches both on Sunday next and on Tuesday. The hour at which the services on Tuesday will be held has not yet been announced. There will be a combined memorial service on Tuesday next, the time and place of which will be duly announced.
