SMALL SUPPORT Melbourne, Jan. 22. The conference of Federal unions, called by the Australian Council of Trades Unions to discuss the seamen’s strike, was continued to-day, when the seamen submitted a proposal for an extension of the strike to the key industries. This was rejected. The seamen then offered to place the dispute in the hands of the council in conjunction with the Seamen’s Union; It was also suggested that the shipowners be approached. The proceedings were very stormy and eventually became so involved that the conference asked the seamen to reconstruct their proposals for a further conference to-morrow. The only support offered to the seamen was from Mr Nelson, president, and Mr Orr, secretary, of the Miners’ Federation,
