.NEW KING
ISOROFGH GOUNGIL RESOLUTION The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council, called for last night, was attended by His Worship the Mayor, Mr L. R. Wilkinson lin the chain, Crs. F. J. Allely, J. M. Daines, C. T. McFarlane, W. McKinnon, T. E. Youngman. A. J. Gallagher, A. N. lies, and D. Matheson.
As soon as Councillors had assembled the Mayor said it was the intention not to transact any business, but to adjourn the meeting. He then moved—This Council desires to place on record its deep regret at the passing of our beloved monarch, King George V. As a small section of a grief stricken nation, we find it hard to realise that the ruler who has proved such an inspiration to the nation through the years of trials and difficulties has now joined his many illustrious ancestors. We also wish to express our profound sympathy with Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family and pledge our loyalty to our new King Edward VIII.
The motion was seconded by Cr lies and passed in silence, all present standing. The Mayor then read a telegram as received by him from the Prime Minister, Hon. M. J. Savage, asking him to read the Proclomation of the accession of His Majesty King Edward VIII at 11 a.m. the following day. He then moved —That the meeting adjourn till the 29th inst. as a mark of respect to the late King George V. The motion was seconded by Cr Daines and carried unanimously.
A copy of the Council’s resolution of- sympathy will he telegraphed today to His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Viscount Galway.
