BIG FAMILY

Mr Frederick Hendon, of Wimbledon, has had 21 children, at least 60 grandchildren—he says he has lost count of the exact number—and ten great-grandchildren. Ten of his children. 54 grandchildren, and all his great-grandchildren, the eldest of whom is now nine years old, are alive. “Me and the missus were married before we were 17,” said Mr Hendon, who is 72. ‘We believe in having a lot of children in my family. I lost the missus last year, but she was over 70, and some of my family have lived to be nearly a hundred.” Mr Hendon was a twin and had 22 brothers and sisters. One of his daughters has a family of 15 and another one of 12.

“How did I keep them all in order?” Mr Hendon was asked. “Why I’ve never used a stick to them in my life,” was his reply. The combined ages of Mr Hendon and all his descendants now living total 927 years. Next year the total will reach a thousand, and it is Mr Hendon’s ambition to celebrate the event with a party for the entire family.
