MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Taurangn Rugby Union was held in Mr Gallagher’s oflire on Tuesday last. Present; Messrs Guinness (in the chair). Hare, Olding, Rigglr, Packman. Fisher, Moloney and the Secretary (Mr M. Simmonds).
The application of W. Merriman to be re-graded was granted. The registration of Cadets Club players was approved, art mentioned in the application. It was decided to take note of rule for transfer of players at the commencement of the season.
It was decided to commence all matches as follows: — Juniors, not later than 1.15 p.m.; Seniors, not later than IMS p.m. instead of 1.30 and 3 p.m. as advised. Ciub Secretaries are to note the change of timeis.
Should Mr Olding he unable to make the trip to Whakatane, as delegate to the Ray of Plenty Union. Mr Riggir will fill the vacancy. It was decided to have a working bee on Sunday, the 23rd inst., on the Domain at 10 a.m. to get the fields in order. As many players as possible are requested to help. Club Secretaries are requested to .send along the names of players for registration as soon as possible. The names must be in before the meeting on Monday night next. Dairy Factories’ Teams. After the recent match between teams representing the Tauranga and Te Puke dairy factories at Tauranga, the teams attended a dinner. The visitors were cordially welcomed by Mr Gilbert, After dinner a meeting was held. Several speakers gave their views regarding a return match. It was moved by Mr Lovell, and seconded by Mr Lorrigan—That the matter be left in the hands of the Managers and Captains to decide. —Carried. Mr Lorrigan moved —That a proportion of the gate money which the Te Puke team may collect on the return match be devoted toward the payment of the Te Puke team’s expenses.—Seconded by Mr Williams and carried. A suggestion was made that a cup should be provided to be played for annually. This was adversely commented upon by Mr Downs, who explained that the element of sport and friendship which had been so outstanding in the day’s play would immediately be lost and the contest would descend to a battle for a trophy. Moved by Mr Downs, seconded by Mr Lorrigan—That the presentation of a cup be declined.—Carried. Moved by Mr Lorrigan, seconded by Mr Williams—That only ten players be included in each team at the present time and that players be actively employed by the respective Dairy Companies.—Carried. It was agreed that the managers and captains arrange a committee) of players from each team to deal with all necessary details. Mr Lorrigan moved—That the match and dinner be an annual event. —Seconded by Mr Downs and carried unanimously. After cheers had been given for the two teams, the managers and the referee (Mr Dickson) the function concluded with the singing of “They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” The Tauranga team for the return match at Te Puke will be: Fullback, W. Bradley; three-quarters, N. Campbell, R. Grey, L. Young; five-eighths, C. Meharry, F. Lorrigan; half-back, W. Gulley; forwards, F. Porter, G. Wright, R. Walford. Baptist Young Men v. Country. The following team will represent the Baptist Young Men’s Club In a match against the Country Club on the high school reserve to-morrow commencing at 1.15 p.m.—l. Foreman, M. Pearson, T. Smith, Togo Webster, J. Waitara, F. Wilson, M. Mearns, W. Vint, R. Walker, R. Tonkin, J. Marshall, S. Crabbe, J. Tressider, D. Cameron (captain), K. Johnston. All members and intending members of the Athletic Club are requested to be at the Domain to-morrow afternoon, the juniors to play Cadets at 1.15 sharp, and the seniors to practise on No. 2 ground at 2.30.
