ENTRIES FOR SHOW

A RECORD YEAR ANTICIPATED,

At the meeting of the Executive Committee of the A. and P. Association held on Saturday, the Secretary reported that a steady demand continuder for show schedules and that entries had commenced coming in. In increasing numbers. In fact the indications were that a largely Increased number of exhibits would be catalogued this year than any previous year. In spite of opinions to the contrary, people were applying themselves more to industry during the difficult period through which the country wag passing. The increased exhibits were evidence of that.

From inquiries from Women’s Institutes all over the Dominion it was fair to~assume that there would be strong competition in this special class for Women’s Institutes. The first prize is a Silver Cup donated by Mr S. Armstrong, and £1 Is. the winner each year being presented with a miniature cup.

The same activity is evident in the horse and cattle sections. The hunting classes now permit ladies to compete for the first time, and will Influence the volume of entrants considerably. .

A special prize of £2 2s, presented by Messrs R. and W. Hellaby, is included in the pig section and this should stimulate entries in this hitherto much neglected section. The most Important factor that is helping the show on this year is that the prize money is the same as last year—and there are no tags attached to It.

In the competitions there are excellent opportunities for amateur Judges of live stock. Including juniors, to try their skill. The competitions are educative, taken from a farmer’s point of view.
