FOOTBALL.

TAURANGA V. TE PUKE. Te Puke senior and junior fifteens will visit Tauranga on Saturday next. The seniors will meet the local representatives in a friendly contest, while the juniors are challengers for the Shalfoon Shield, which is held by the Tauranga juniors. Interesting games are anticipated. The Te Puke teams will travel by train and are due to arrive here at one o’clock. The train will leave on the return journey at 5.10 p.m. Th following seniors will represent Te Puke;—Fullback, Cleary; threequarters, Moses, Fanner, McNaughton: five-eighths, Potaka, Corbett; halfback, Poteue; forwards, Raymond, Hadley, Webber, Whiteside Malcolm, Wickliffie, Joyce. Morton. Emergencies; Ahimiro. Jackson, Bradford. HIGH SCHOOL MATCH. The following will comprise the Tauranga District High School first fifteen in their match against Ngatea first fifteen on Saturday;— Full-back, W, Hare; three-quart-ers, A. B. Carter, R. R. Hardy, P. Johnston; five-eighths. A. Pemberton,,P. Reweti; half-back, R. Fell; forwards. R. E. Tonkin, G. Bell, K. Andrews, S. Rippon, S. Gamman, K. Kahotea, J. Sutherland. D. Neilson. Emergencies; A. McCluue, G. Walford, J. Keam. NOTES. (By “Old Boy”). No more impressive cause for any football match could be visualised than that under which last Saturday's game was contested. The boy, to whom all those who witnessed the match payed homage was truly in his element on the football fields in the Bay, and we trust the annual contests between Te Puke and Tauranga will ever keep fresh in our minds his memory. Now, therefore, we must show by our presence at such contests, that we entirely endorse the ultimate destination to which the proceeds from such matches are devoted—an injured players’ fund. On Saturday’s gate record, however, I feel constrained to remind the public of Tauranga that they did not support this very worthy cause as might have been expected. It might be said the idea of making the Dick Phelan Memoral Cup for competition between the leading senior teams of the two Unions is not a big enough draw. In this I agree, and I would suggest that it be for competition annually on June 3rd between teams* in the two Unions from the primary schools upwards. The Cup could be allotted on points. I would like to congratulate Athletics on winning the trophy, and also congratulate the Huimai Club on its excellent showing. The teams were very evenly matched. Athletics I noticed, had two old players in their ranks, so hard pushed were they to field a team. I refer to Duncan and Packman. Both players demonstrated that “old age” does not prevent a man from helping his old Club over the stiles.

Rayment as full-back played a fair game. He w-as, however, overshadowed by the Huimai custodian, who played a sound game. Gray was the only back on the ground. The forwards were very evenly matched, and kept up the pace all day. On Saturday next Te Puke representatives visit Tauranga, and two good games are assured. The game for the Shalfoon Shield to be played as a curtain raiser to a friendly match between the two senior representative teams, should prove interesting. If anything the local boys, have a superiority in weight, but the Te Puke boys are fit and will prove a hard nut to crack. The senior game should be worth watching. The honours are even. However, I will refrain from foretelling the result, but let it be said, I have no doubts about the issue. Now then you lads. Go for it! MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE,
