UNEMPLOYMENT.
I MEETING OF LOCAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Tauranga Unemployment Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers on I Monday last. Present: His Worship [ the Mayor, Mr B. C. Bobbins (Chairman), J. E. Ward, W. F. Sinclair, C. W. Boak and the secretary, Mr r’ L. Rose. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Lochhead and Bongard. Three applications for work were considered and deferred until funds are available. Advice was received that a contract for subsidising contract labour under Scheme No 48, for blackberry and scrub cutting, had been approved by the Unemployment Commissioner, The Unemployment Commissioner forwards communication advising that limited funds have now been made available for Scheme No. 4A The Commissioner added: "If you have any applications on hand, or receive any applications for labour under the Scheme, and it is considered they should be approved, you may prepare and forward forms U.B. 24, so that, if finances permit, suitable allocations may be arranged.” I
Unemployment Auxiliary Committee A meeting of the Tauranga Unemployment Auxiliary Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon, the Mayor, Mr B. C. Robbins, presiding. The Secretary, Rev. J. Ewen Simpson, reported that he had received an anonymous letter regarding the work of the committee. The Committe refused to receive the letter. Various members of the Committee reported upon aid administered. Some flfty'-four garments have been distributed in the last fortnight. Meat, groceries, vegetables, and fuel have also been distributed. The Rev. C. R. Taylor reported having received a donation of iM from Miss Covell, on behalf of the young people of Te Puna. | Rev. A. F. Hall mentioned a case ! where two tents were required, as : the people concerned had to vacate ! the house in which they had been i living. This is a novel type of ap- ; plication, hut he hoped that the ap- 1 peal for tents would be met. It was reported that Messrs Tanner Bros, had undertaken to fall in . line with Mr McKenna in giving do- ! nations of meal to the committee. ! Various applications for relief • wore considered and dealt with. 1 The Ladies Committee reported ! that the demand for clothing exceed- j ed the supply, and they hoped that | further donations of clothing would ! be immediately forthcoming. ■
