SETTLERS’ PETITION.

STATE OF XO, 2 ROAD, TE PUKE,

At the meeting of the Tauranga County Council on Friday last a letter was read from Mr Samuel Douglas. Xo. 2 Road, Te Puke, drawing attention to the state of the culverts on the upper portion of the Xo, 2 Road. He said several of the culverts are blocked, causing the water to flow down the centre of the metalled portions of the road. A culvert leading into the property of Mrs Staples, senr.. lias been blocked for a considerable time. Mr Douglas pointed out that attention to the culverts would add considerably to the life of the metalled portions of the road.

Messrs S. Douglas. \V. F. Staples, H. Fox, E. H, Ward. T. Heatheringlon and F. E. Adams, settlers residing at the lop of Xo. 2 Road. Te Puke, in a joint petition drew attention to the bad slate of the road on what is known as Douglas’s Hill; also, to a portion below the present metalling on what is known as Burt’s Hill. They requested the Council to have these two portions of road metalled as soon as possible. As matters are at present it is just about impossible to either get in or out, without going through private property. The letter concluded: “We wish to point out that your Council draws a considerable amount of rates from this portion of the county so would humbly ask your immediate attention to this request." Cr Morton said there were not sufficient culverts, and a number of them were blocked. The upper portions of Xo. 2 and Xo. 2 Roads required attention. The roads mentioned should be inspected by Iho engineer and the Te Puke councillors as soon as possible. Cr Daily said the culverts on flic roads should be cleared. Cr Meads said the culverts on Xo. 2 Road were blocked. The water should he kept off the road. Cr Morton moved—That the matter of dealing with Xo. 2 and Xo. 3 Roads be referred to the Te Puke councillors and the engineer, with power io act. The motion was seconded by Cr Dally and carried unanimously.
