Lower Charges for Milking * Machines. ATHEXREE EXTENSION COMPLETED. The ordinary meeting of the Tauranga Electric Power Board was held in Security Buildings yesterday. Present; Messrs T. Lochhcad (chairman), J. Hume, H. G. Lever, S. H. MacDougall. J. M. Darragh, G. H. Mends and C. E. S. Ganc. Reduction In Cluirgos. I Mr L. S. Crowley, Secretary of the ■ Tauranga Co-operative Dairy Assoti- ! ation, Ltd., wrote stating; “1 have ■ been instructed by my Directors to re- ! quest your Board to consider the ! question of temporarily reducing the j electric charges to our power suppliers during the slump period. We i understand that your Board arranged ' with the Borough Council to grant a similar request to the tlaxmillcrs and 'wc should appreciate your earnest consideration of this on our behalf.” The Secretary of the Board, Mr | Chambers, replied under date April 1 17. advising that the Board has al- : ready made a considerable reduction in | the charges for power for milking machines. The reduction which takes [effect from April t, includes the waivi ing of the flat rate charges for the : months of April, May and June, and 1 the reduction of the unit charge i from 3d to 2 3-qd for the first 600 [ units for quarter. This means a | permanent annual saving of approximately, £7OO a venr to the farming community of the district. The renlv was approve l -!. Cheaper Telephones. Mr I. E. Ward. Post master, wrote in reference to telephones No,s. 07, 132. 170, and 307, leased by the Board, and advised that the Department has decided to permit the connections to be classified as “residential” from March 1. The Secretary explained there, would be a reduction of about ,£ls per year to the Board. Annual Conference. The Acting, Secretary of the Electric Power Boards and Supply Author- ' ities Association of New Zealand, Wellington, forwarded advice thro the eighth annual conference of the Association will be held in Wellington during the month of July. Remits for inclusion in the Conference Order Paper should be in the hands •of the Secretary not later than Mav 31. A resolution was carried at the last conference that the conference of . the Engineers and Secretaries branches of the Association should be held in ■ (he same week as that in which the main conference is held. Mr Gape moved to the effect that a remit be sent protesting against the commilsorv inspection of installations at 'the expense nf Power Boards.—Seconded bv Mr MarDongall and carried. Thanks and Appreciation. Mr H. Tai Mitchell, Chairman of the Arawa Trust Board, Rotorua, wrote regarding Maketu services as under; “ (1) Electric pump Maketu Village; (2) Electric pump, Arawa Trust Farm; (3) wiring house Arawa Trust; (4) wiring, etc., milking .shed, Arawa Trust; I have just been over these services. They have been very satisfactorily and efficiently installed by vour staff. On behalf of the Arawa trust Board please accept best thanks and appreciation for agreeing to Jet the Board have the current and for the splendid way the service has been carried out.” Members regarded the letter as very satisfactory. Accounts. The accounts as scheduled, totalling ,£2015 9/4, were passed for payment. Estimates. The estimates for the year ending March 31, 1931, were presented. Mr Ganc thought the estimates should have been considered by the . General Purposes Committee. ' Mr Mends moved—That the csli- ' mates be approved.—Seconded by Mr Darragh and carried. Engineer’s Report. Mr J. R. Bongard, engineer submitted the folowing report;— Since my last report the Athcnrcc extension has been completed, also the line on Old Mill Road Katikati. At Waterford the transformer capacity was increased and the substation moved nearer the load centre. On completion of these works the outside staff was reduced. Preparations for maintenance work on the 33,000 volt line have been completed, and the first shut down, will take place on Sunday, May 25, if the weather permits. T, The wiring department has installed the following since March 21, - 1930: Milking motors, 5; water heaters 12; ranges, 5; pumps, 3. Various clauses in the report were elaborated by the engineer. Mr Gane moved—That the engineer’s report be adopted.—Seconded by Mr MacDougall and carried. Genera! Purposes Committee. The General Purposes Committee presented the following report;— Outstanding Account of Muir’s Gold Reefs, Ltd. —The Minister of Mines vrotc repudiating. the Crown’s liabilty for payment of the account. A Conference was held with the Borough Council and it was decided that Mr Sharp, of -Messrs Shferp, Tudhopc ired Wilson, reply to the letter, and hat the Conference would resume at 1 later date. Relegates to Conference of Town Planning . Board.—Mct»r-s Lever, 'lends ,and. the Executive Officers verb appointed delegates to attend he Conference held in Tauranga. , Advertising Booklets.—A proposiion was, submitted to supply the , loard with 1,000 booklets entitled Domestic Electricity” at a cost of ,5- It was decided to recommend subsidy of £2 To/ only.
