NEW COUNTY OFFICES

OI'ENING AT HOXOKVA. The opening ceremony of the new County Council Chambers took place in Rotorua on Friday in the presence of a gathering o£ representative men of the Bay of Plenty, The Hon. •Mr Ransom, Minister for Public Works, and Mr C. C’inkard, M.P., represented ihe Government, and Mr Furketl. Chief Engineer for the Public Works Department was also present, Mr W. F. Sinclair, Chairman of v the Tauranga County Council, was present by invitation. Mr Ransom, who had just returned from his northern trip., congratulated the county on being in the happy position of building tho new offices out of revenue. He could assure tiie people that the Government was out to help the baekblock settlers, and to promote settlement of Crown Lands under the direction of tho Minister of Lands, the Hon. Mr l-orbes. There were also present several past chairmen of the Rotorua County who recounted the struggle the Rotorua County had had in the past. Mr King, a former county chairman, recalled the circumstances when the members- assembled in attics and old buildings tor their regular meetings. Ihe new buildjife, '■'which cost x-'450. is a fine concrete structure, and in addition to office accomodation provides cover for the rountv maebinerv.
