TROTTING RACE

AT MAT AM AT A SHOW. At the last meeting of the, Matamat.a A. and P. Association a letter was read from the New Zealand Trotting Association, Christchurch, forwarding rules in connection with trotting- exhibitions at shows, and advising that the ice would be £l. Mr Young thought the event should be gone on with and that a trophy might be valued more than a monetary prize. Mr Landell s stated that owners would enter horses for a decent trophy and give it; a op because a win would not affect their handicap. Mr Stevens stated that the trophy would have to be worth at least £2O to attract outside horses. Mr Payze thought they would only get local entries. Mr Wilson thought that a. money prize would attract more entries. Cambridge and Paknerston gave money prizes. A member: I always ran faster for a £lO note than a medal. (Laughter). Messrs. Wilson and Landells then moved that a prize of £2O be offered, and this was carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr Stqvens the entrance fee was fixed ait £l.
