Mr Noil Carter, who has been touring Australia, was taken ill during his travels, and had to be ojjerated on for acute appendicitis (says the Whakatane Press). Latest advices state that ho is progressing favourably.. The death has occurred in Christchurch of Mr Benjamin Stubbing, a well-known Waikato pioneer, at the age of 85.
A London cable announces the death of Sir Valentine Chirol, traveller and journalist, aged 77.
On behalf of the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum, the High Commissioner, Sir Jfames Parr, has appointed Mr C. W. Dover, of Liverpool, as taxidermist to the Auckland Museum, Mr Dover will leave for the Dominion by the lluahine, which sails from Southampton this week.
