PUBLIC OPINION

POPPY DAY. ; (To tlie Editor.) Sir, —As the annual Poppy Day appeal is being made by the Rcturned Soldiers Association it is only right that the public should known how their contributions are administered. The association therefore wish to make . it quite clear that all money subscribed through the symbolism of the Flanders poppies is used for the relief of returned soldiers in distress. From this liund there are absolutely no administrative expenses, every penny above the bare cost of the poppies (which are the work of disabled soldiers) being used to provide relief to those in urgent need. During the past year we were fortunate in having our poppy fund subsidised by the Borough Council enabling work to be provided for every returned soldier who applied for employment. This assistance was greatly appreciated by the associaion. It is hoped however, that there may be a possibility in the future of the Council sotting aside some work to be carried out exclusively by returned men seeking employment and assisted by our poppy fund. By this arrangement the public who subscribe to the fund would have some definite evidence that their contributions arc wisely and profitably invested. Our thanks are hero extended to all who assist by services and contributions.—-We arc, etc., L. 11. WILKINSON, President, W. A. S. LONDON, Secretary, Bay of Plenty R,S.A.
