A group of Cantonese soldiers tried lo force the enemy and when stopped by the police, commenced abusing them. This attracted u crowd of hawkers, coolies and loafers, who stoned the police, the majority of whom were wounded, but not seriously. Reinforcements of police add members of Green Howards Battalion billeted nearby quelled life riot, returning tile stone throwing with a baton charge, thus dispersing the mob,,,
