FIREALARM SYSTEM
ELECTRIC SYREN. The following letter from Mr C. Lowe, Secretary of the Tauranga Fire Board was read at Wednesday night's meeting of the Tuuranga Borough Council: "I am instructed by this Board to approach your Cooncil with regard to the erection and installation of a fire alarm system for the Tauranga (ire district. The Fire Board has decided to replace th« present metiio •of sounding the alarm by an electric syren situated at the main fire station and operated by six call boxes situated at various points in the borough. Following are particulars of the apparatus and the proposed situation of the call boxes, and this Board would be .obliged if your" .Council • would undertake this work, and before committing this Board, give a firm price for running the necessary wiring (using the Council's own power poles); the erection of the apparatus at the lire station; and the installation of the six call boxes on the wire; the wire to be of bronze with a weight of 40lb fo the mile. 'Location of Boxes.—No 1, Triangle; No. 2, Tauranga Hotel; No. 3, Mr Dyson's residence; No. i. Crabbe's Store: No. 3, Faulkner's Store; No. 0, Fraser Street, somewhere near Mr Bremner's residence.-A line is also to be run from the Post Office to the main stai "Apparatus.—To be supplied by R. 11. White, engineer. Wellington: One 2.1 h.p. electric syren and motor: electric switch gear for the main station: six indicators for the main station; six call boxes at the points given above." Cr Tanner moved—That the matter l>e referred to the Electricity Coinrniloe and Hie engineer with power to act. The motion was seconded by Cr Dailies and carried.
