One of the most disastrous fires in the history ol Queensland occurred at Ipswich road, when the State joinery works and sawmills if Messrs Hancock and Gore were destroyed. The damage to the joinery works is estimated at £IOO,OOO, and to Hancocks’ £20,000.

Flying sheets of corrugated iron caused minor injuries to twenty persons. One fireman, trapped by flames on a bridge 25 feet from the ground, jumped and was stunned, but was only slightly hurt. During the week-end a block of buildings was destroyed, and damage to the extent of £IO,OOO was done. At Ccoroy the six buildings burned were valued at £3OOO. (A. and N.Z )
