Air Brown. is rising to reply, was greeted with three cheers. AY hen permitted to Air Brown said he appreciated most sincerely the very kind remarks made by the gentlemen who had spoken. Born in the district, ho had been associated with it all his life. In I 1902. when farming conditions were in a very sad way, he had started in business in Tauranga with his -brothers, and after live years the business had been taken over by the N.Z. Loan and Afer'■antilc Company. He had been associated with that company ever since, ami any success that had attended- hi s efforts as the company’s representative j had been entirely due to the loyal sup-j port and help of Lis many old friends. | During practically the whole period of in’s association with the company he had been ably assisted by Air Cyril Jordan, who had for some years managed the Tauranga branch, and be could say without hesitation that the company had Keen fortunate in having such a. representative in Tauranga. He had been greatly surprised at learning that he was to transfer to Palmerston North, and it was with extreme regret that he viewed his 1 coming departure. It was a very big wrench indeed D leave the district, and part from sc many old friends, most; °i whom were present that evening. Their many kindnesses he could never forget, and trusted that should any of them ever visit Palmerston North he would have the pleasure of meeting them once again. Air Brown was again heartily cheered on resuming his scat. Later in the evening Air J. A. Jordan presented to Air Brown, as a token of esteem from old and new residents of Ta.ura.nga, a silver salver, and to Airs Brown a solid leather travelling bag. Again the toast of Air Brown and , family was enthusiastically honoured. Mr Brown in a brief reply, said ho appreciated most highly the very valuable gifts to Airs Brown and himself. His oldest and best friends were present, and lie could find no words to adequately thank them and all who bad contributed to the gifts, which he would ever highly treasure. Never again could he hope to make such friends. That , he felt, was his saddest thought at leaving the district. In addition to the toast of the guest: of tlie evening. tR© following toasts were also honoured: — Sports, proposed hy Air H. A. Sharp, responded to by Alessrs A. Brown, J. A. Jordan, and Colin Norris; the Ladies, proposed hy Air A. J.
